Emma is a renowned and sought after oboist
throughout London and the UK. She is currently a member of Britten
Sinfonia playing alongside oboe guru Nicholas Daniel. Her vivaciousness
is an inspiration to many in terms of her beguiling playing and warm
persona. A wondrous assemblage packages her to be just at home
performing with the likes of the London Mozart Players to hip-hop oboe.
After studying for a while with Celia Nicklin at the Royal Academy of
Music she was quickly appointed Principal Oboe with the Orquestra du
Norte in Portugal. Later, she returned to the RAM, studying with
Douglas Boyd and on completing her studies was awarded the Dip.RAM and
the Cork Prize. As a chamber musician Emma is an active member of Chroma- one of the
most forefront ensembles in contemporary music to exist. She has also
performed with the Guildhall Strings, the Haffner Wind Ensemble, Piano
Plus Quintessance and Pipers 3. She plays with most of the top UK
orchestras, including English National Opera Orchestra, English
Sinfonia, Garsington Opera, London Mozart Players, London Philharmonic
Orchestra, Moscow City Ballet, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. She
is a major contributor to educating and motivating young aspiring
musicians.
A prize-winning graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Nottingham born Stuart is very much
involved in the London music scene both as an orchestral player and as a
chamber musician. His array of motley accolades are characteristic of his
playing which is often described as individual and charismatic. Highlights
include numerous guesting as principal clarinet with the English National
Ballet Orchestra, which has taken him all across the UK; the BBC Concert
Orchestra for live and recorded broadcasts for BBC Radio 2 and 3, alongside the
BBC 2 series called The Maestro; the Royal Ballet Sinfonia; Symphony Orchestra
of India; West Kazakhstan Philharmonic Orchestra and
many more. Amongst others, he has
performed with Girls Aloud(on the X Factor); Smokey Robinson in the Electric
Proms; Nigel Kennedy in the Royal Albert Hall Prom Concerts; Westlife; Pink
Martini; Marti Pello; Courtney Pine; Mica Paris; Glen Campbell and Joe
Brown. Chamber Music
involves being a member of the renowned ensemble Sound Collective, A U R A
clarinet quartet, and the Junge Deustche Sinfonie. He has recorded
for Sony BMG Classics, Soul Jazz Records, Electric M.E.L.T, and for artists
including Kate Nash, These New Puritans, and Chris Bowden. His latest film
recording was for a release earlier this year called Dogging: A Love Story-
where he played in a Klezmeresque style. An article on his career to date was
featured in the Classical Music Magazine, published by Rhinegold, concentrating
on his diverse portfolio in what is a fierce and competitive genre of work.
"now singing, now speaking, now
caressing, now screaming, now smouldering, now dancing, now whispering...truly
a performance to remember from a clarinettist to watch..." John
Hawks, Times and Leisure Magazine
During her graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Fiona was notably recognised for her excellence and went on to be a scholarship winner at the Royal Academy of Music. She achieved a place in the final of the Young Artist's Trust competition and this set her on a path of solo work for sometime- performing the Robin Holloway Bassoon Concerto, having a concerto written for her by Tom Wilson, as well as doing a number of recitals for bassoon and piano. She enjoys very much playing with small groups of people in chamber ensemble settings, is a founder member of the Aeolian and has played with the Haffner Ensemble and the City of London Chamber Ensemble.
Fiona has had most experience though as an orchestral musician, and has worked with many of the UK's leading orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Britten Sinfonia, Halle Orchestra, London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, and the Westend shows Miss Saigon and Martin Guerre.
In 2000 she widened her horizons and began her training as a teacher of the Alexander Technique. She qualified in 2004 and now combines playing and teaching the Technique which she finds to be an exciting and rewarding mixture. She especially enjoys teaching musicians, both professional and students- as well as a thriving private practice she has done workshops and classes for the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and the National Youth Orchestra.
